Lhc Arc Dipole Status Report

چکیده
The LHC, a 7 Tev proton collider presently under construction at CERN, requires 1232 superconducting (SC) dipole magnets, featuring a nominal field of 8.33 T inside a cold beam tube of 50 mm inner diameter and a magnetic length of 14.3 m. To achieve such high fields whilst retaining the wellproven fabrication methods of cables made with NbTi superconductors, it is necessary to operate the magnets at 1.9 K in superfluid helium. For reasons of space and economy, the two dipole apertures are incorporated into a single iron yoke and cryostat (two-in-one concept). The design considerations and the experimental results, which have led to the design adopted for series manufacture, are presented and discussed. The aims and status of the short model and full size prototype dipole programmes are subsequently reported. Finally, the major milestones of the schedule of the dipole magnets series manufacture are given and commented.

ARIADNE at HERA and at the LHC
I describe briefly the status of the ARIADNE program implementing the Dipole Cascade Model and comment both on its performance at HERA, and the uncertainties relating to the extrapolation to LHC energies.

The Large Hadron Collider Project LHC was approved by the CERN Council in December 1994. Commissioning with beam will start in the second half of 2005. The paper discusses the most important parameters, the general layout of the LHC octants, the status of the experiments ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHC-B, proton injection using the PS Booster, and the proton synchrotrons PS and SPS. Also described ar...

Studies, taking into account the expected radiation doses for the different sections in the LHC accelerator tunnel, such as regular arcs and dispersion suppressors, show that electronic equipment can be considered for installation under the magnets [1,2,3,4]. An estimate based on work carried out for String 2, the LHC Magnet String Program [5], and extrapolated to the whole LHC machine gives a ...
متن کاملCAST: A search for solar axions at CERN
The new axion helioscope at CERN started acquiring data during September of 2002: CAST (Cern Axion Solar Telescope) employs a decommissioned LHC dipole magnet to convert putative solar axions or axion-like particles into detectable photons. The unprecedented dipole magnet intensity and length (9.5 T, 10 m) results in a projected sensitivity that surpasses astrophysical constraints on these part...
متن کاملExtracting Top Quark CP Violating Dipole Couplings via tt̄γ and tt̄Z Productions at the LHC
We propose to extract the electric and weak dipole moments of the top quark via tt̄γ and tt̄Z productions at the CERN LHC. With the large numbers of events available at the LHC, these dipole moments can be measured to the accuracy of 10e cm. Present mailing address
